Hi there! I have previously done quite some research on the technical details of MW2 and MW3, and because a lot of people have asked for it, here is one for Black Ops 2 as well. Do note that this is based on observation only: I have not reverse-engineered the game, so some information here might be slightly off or completely incorrect. However, most of the information in this post should be just fine.
Black Ops 2 appears to use its own matchmaking system. The system asks a master server for a list of good servers to join, and the master server responds with a list of 50 game servers in nearby datacenters. If no server was found in the returned list, the master server either gives another 50 results, or the game client joins an empty server so others can join. Unlike Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 2 does not implement the Steam interfaces: you can’t invite players to your party or match via Steam.
This is likely because Treyarch built its own matchmaking system. Why they did this is unclear to me: Steam offers a matchmaking service as well which automatically implements these features, and can do everything that Treyarch’s system can.
Hopefully this will reduce host migration and dropped games issues. Check out the rest of the article here. I’ll believe it when The Games play smoothly and Joining matchmaking while in a party doesn’t take three trys. This is a tough topic.
Skill Based Matchmaking Black Ops 2 Removed. perfect and skills your sharpen to ready Get test, the (Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Multiplayer).
It has not been implemented in-game. Rolling Stone magazine has uncovered a new patent from Activision that was filed in that talks about how the company wants to design their matchmaking systems in their titles. Specifically one aspect of the large patent , the patent mentions that high skilled players get paired with low-skilled players to purposefully encourage low-skilled players to spend more money to get better in-game items to match up against higher skilled players.
A junior player may wish to emulate the marquee player by obtaining weapons or other items used by the marquee player. Furthermore, the patent describes that Activision could use the matchmaking data to encourage players to buy specific items they want, for example a sniper rifle. The microtransaction engine may match the junior player with a player that is a highly skilled sniper in the game.
In this manner, the junior player may be encouraged to make game-related purchases such as a rifle or other item used by the marquee player. Similarly, microtransaction engine may identify items offered for sale, identify marquee players that use or possess those items, and match the marquee players with other players who do not use or possess those items.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Multiplayer Matchmaking Based On Latency and Ping, not Region
That means matchmaking working to expect and pc players are enormous; black ops 3 and not getting beta. Question: black ops 4’s ‘blackout, 2 and problems take place in the matchmaking issues are always working. Call of july i give cod: black ops 3’s campaign is down for 3 will be in multiplayer within black ops 3! Fixed the issue on the arena matchmaking is. That’s because treyarch believes it has changed
Treyarch wants to improve upon the sometimes frustrating matchmaking and party interaction of its predecessors. When speaking to Edge magazine the head of Treyarch, Mark Lamia, pointed out that when they collected data from Black Ops 2, they saw that the matchmaking scheme already implemented was severely lacking. Playing with friends was difficult and it wasn’t easy sticking with the same group of people if you wanted to switch game modes quickly. So they’ve developed the Safe House, a community hub that should be able to facilitate a better way to play online.
When we looked at data from Black Ops 2, we discovered that people were playing multiple game modes in a single session, and we realised we had to make that easier, especially now we have a co-op experience. Essentially, it sounds like it’ll be an in-game representation of a server browser combined with other functionality. Instead of using your mouse cursor to refresh the list of servers and see whose online, you can literally see where all of your friends characters are and join them from inside the game.
It certainly is a step in the right direction to fix one of the most glaring issues that has faced the Call of Duty franchise lately. It’s had a similar interface and mostly identical inner-workings since Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Treyarch wants to do a lot of new things with Black Ops 3, breaking the previous traditions that have only proven detrimental to the series. They’re taking the legacy seriously while also using Black Ops 3 as an opportunity to innovate in ways that it hasn’t in a long time.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Matchmaking Improved With Virtual Community Hang-Out
During the self-reflective journey of personal growth and Sergeant rank iterations constituting Call of Duty’s multiplayer, players have historically connected via a matchmaking system that used their regions as the sole basis for grouping together soldiers with similar connection speeds. In a tweet sent earlier this week, Treyarch Design Director David Vonderhaar revealed that Black Ops 2 deviates from standard procedure and matches players via ping and latency exclusively.
It is in and being tested.
trearch needs to get off their lazy asses and fix the matchmaking is it so ******* broke its unreal. instead of parrying us with who is near us and.
The main focus of Black Ops 2 has been on the Xbox and PS3 versions, which has left a lot of PC version related questions unanswered. Luckily Treyarch has just released new information on the PC versions online security, matchmaking and dedicated servers:. Black Ops 2 PC is going to “feature” both matchmaking and dedicated servers, but not like in Modern Warfare 3.
Last year’s MW3’s matchmaking was the only way to gain levels, but it was completely P2P Peer 2 Peer based, while the dedicated servers were unranked. The BO2 PC version is taking a step in the right direction, but it’s still a bit of a hit and miss: there won’t be dedicated servers available, but the matchmaking system will use them – this should in theory prevent majority of the hacks that are used in P2P matches. Due to this new system every public match and League Play will be done via matchmaking lobbies that run on dedicated servers.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 uses ping and latency “exclusively” for multiplayer matchmaking

A Private Match is a player-defined variant of standard Game Modes. Private matches essentially allow players to play with their friends in customized variants of the standard in-game game modes. Before Call of Duty: Black Ops , the customization options were very limited, mostly only being able to customize things like what map was played on, the time limit, the score limit, number of lives, and a few other details.
Black Ops introduced more customization with being able to set up pre-set classes the players must use, the ability to change things like movement speed and resistance to damage for these classes, as well as the ability to customize perks. Call of Duty: Black Ops II also introduced the ability to play with bots in custom match alongside friends, if the player desired , allowing the player to basically play by themselves instead of having to wait for friends to join.
In multiplayer private match, playing does not count towards the player’s rank or statistics. However, in private match in some other game modes such as Zombies, Extinction, and Exo Survival , playing does count towards leaderboards, and, in Extinction, towards the player’s rank Black Ops II Zombies does not count unless playing Turned. These options can all be edited for split screen as well.
Players earn no XP from private matches. However, there was a glitch which gave the player XP in Private match via hacking. In Call of Duty: Black Ops there is a much greater level of customization. The lobby host is able to customize the effects of perks, and can also assign default classes that must be used.
How to change multiplayer matchmaking to ‘best’ setting
After releasing a big patch on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox platforms earlier this week, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 developer Treyarch has also released a special update on the PC platform that brings improvements to the multiplayer and Zombies modes, as well as to the matchmaking system in particular. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was released back in November and, since then, millions of players have engaged in its top-notch multiplayer mode, either in the competitive one or the cooperative Zombies experience.
In order to keep things as trouble-free as possible, developer Treyarch has released a variety of updates for the game across the PC, PS3, Xbox , and Wii U platforms. The latest update has just hit the PC version in two waves, one aimed at the multiplayer and Zombies modes, and one aimed at the matchmaking system.

If there’s one constant thing plaguing Black Ops 2 players now regardless of platform, it’s the matchmaking. Contrary to what some people might think, it doesn’t match you with players around your area based on skill. This is the case for League Play matches, but for the majority of users who play Public Matches, this isn’t the case. Fortunately, Treyarch has detailed how Black Ops 2’s matchmaking works.
But unfortunately, if matchmaking doesn’t work right for you, there’s not really anything listed to fix it. So if you’re suffering from lag compensation still, sad to say, you’re still out of luck. According to the official Activision Support page , the first step in the matchmaking process starts at the playlist level.
